I am a recent University of Chicago Harris School of Policy Master of Science in Computational Analysis and Public Policy (MS-CAPP) graduate. Before that, I received my bachelor's degrees from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in Sociology of law, criminology, and deviance and Statistics with minors in Political Science and DirecTrack to Teaching.

My research interests focus on policing, criminal-legal system, juvenile delinquency, and community safety. I consider myself a mixed-method researcher who perceives crime-related issues with the frameworks of data analysis, data storytelling, and journalism. I enjoy knowing the stories behind data (i.e. data collection), developing data visualizations and stories, and thinking about how data science can be used to promote social justice, which I called 'public data science'.

I am also a policy and technical writer who wrote on policing, criminal law, the legal system, and K12 education. For more information about myself, check out my LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/jcvincentliu and my website at jcvincentliu.netlify.app.
